Enea Announces New Release of the OSE Real-Time Operating System
Published: 12 February, 2008
Enea, a world-leading provider of network software and services, today announced the release of version 5.3 of the Enea OSE(R) real-time operating system (RTOS) that specifically addresses the cost pressures associated with building small form factor, cost-sensitive devices such as mobile phones. Memory, specifically RAM, is expected to continue to be the most expensive hardware component in a mobile device as software content grows. Enea OSE 5.3 allows mobile handset manufacturers to optimize RAM usage through its new demand-paging capabilities, thereby minimizing the overall device bill of materials.
"OSE has always had a strong reputation for efficiently managing power, which is critical for a positive consumer experience," said Terry Pearson, vice president of marketing for Enea. "With OSE 5.3, Enea continues to build on our legacy of strong support for the mobile space by focusing on helping OEMs improve their margins."
OSE is a compact, pre-emptive, memory-protected RTOS that is optimized for communications applications that demand the utmost in reliability, security and availability. In mobile applications, OSE is used in a wide variety of functions, from managing real-time voice communications and multimedia codecs to executing entire suites of mobile applications including Java, browsers, games and other applications. In addition to the demand paging capabilities, OSE 5.3 also delivers a powerful set of new features including: post-mortem dump capability, a Windows-based file system imaging tool and many other improvements targeting the mobile industry.
