Microsoft Excel 97 Vulnerability Patch eliminates a vulnerability of the REGISTER.ID worksheet function which enables any DLL to be referenced from a worksheet without any warning to the user. If an Excel worksheet containing the REGISTER.ID function references a malicious DLL (Dynamic Link Library), it can cause code to run on a userls computer without their knowledge. The code executed on the affected computer can perform any action that the user could perform on the machine. The patch eliminates this vulnerability by disabling the REGISTER.ID function from all Excel worksheets.
