Microsoft Windows 2000 Malformed RPC Packet Vulnerability Patch eliminates a security vulnerability which could allow a malicious user to cause a denial-of-service on a Windows 2000 computer. A malicious user could exploit the vulnerability to cause the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service on a remote Windows 2000 server to crash, and stop responding to client requests. The computers at greatest risk from this vulnerability are Windows 2000 servers that are connected to the Internet. Computers that are protected by a firewall which blocks incoming and outgoing traffic on ports 135 to 139 as well as 445 are protected from attacks that attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
