Notification Icon is a non-visual component that allows you to add an icon to the taskbar notification area. Notification Icon includes the balloon hints feature that is introduced in Windows 2000. However the component detects whether or not the feature is available, and if it is not it provides its own implementation that looks like it. That means that you can get balloon hints under Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT, even if the newest shell library is not installed.
